L’Shanah Tova Tikatevu

In only a matter of a few days, we will come together in hope and prayer to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. So many of us are concerned with the world in which we live, demonstrations of intolerance and natural disasters (rain and flooding) in the state of Texas which serve to remind us all of how precious and vulnerable we are in today’s world. I too become discouraged when watching the local and national news stories which are both frightening and filled with dismay. When do we come together to solve these challenges as a community? The synagogue is the answer; to hear words of Torah from our Rabbi and to seek answers and means of support.

I have been lifted by the heroic efforts in Texas of volunteers and professionals who have risked their own lives to rescue and treat victims. Locally, we have witnessed clergy of all faiths mobilizing in unity to be heard; delivering their message of peace and humanity. I am proud to have my/our Rabbi Jeffrey Myers among those lending his support and endorsement to these efforts. Working together as a unified community in response is the key. Those who wish to separate us should be countered by groups who seek peaceful co-existence and tolerance. Peaceful demonstration is one of the characteristics which make our country great. Let’s re-dedicate ourselves in the new year of 5778 to helping others and offering both our time and financial resources to maximize that which is good in this world. Linda and I offer our family’s wishes for a new year filled with good health and the blessing of Shalom in a world filled with peace and harmony.
