Planning for the High Holidays

It's Summer!

Time to start working on the High Holidays!

After a mild winter, we are being treated to warm weather and sunshine. My favorite time of the year is the fall season when we experience the beautiful hillsides of western Pennsylvania and the multiple colors of leaves falling from the trees. The fall season also signals the High Holidays, this year beginning with Erev Rosh Hashanah on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

High Holiday Seating

You have two options: request and/or continue as you have in past years to sit in a designated seat in the sanctuary or upon arrival for each service select an open seat that has not been designated for reserved seating. If you would like a designated seat, please contact my office now to convey your requests, and I will do my best to accommodate your seating needs. This process begins soon, so please write to joeldon@aol.com or call 412-521-6788 x11.

High Holiday Honors

Make this the year when you participate in the High Holiday services, just let me know you're interested, and I will convey your interest to the High Holiday Honors Committee as they, too, will soon be meeting.

Cantor Vocalist Sarah Nadler

Sarah Nadler, a masters graduate of CMU and a native of Pittsburgh, returns to help lead services and davening on Erev Rosh Hashanah, Rosh Hashanah Days 1 and 2, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur. Sarah’s participation is made possible in part through the Cantorial Music Fund; please consider helping to support this important initiative.

Ushering and Greeting

Irwin Harris (imharris1@gmail.com) and his volunteers are so very helpful serving as ushers and greeters at the doors welcoming congregants to services. Please consider volunteering a half hour or hour to enhance our services to members off the bimah.

New Members

Summer also is the season for Shul shoppingl please let me know of individuals or families who might be interested in learning more about our community. We are happy to call or share a cup of coffee or Diet Coke with prospective new members, as well as our current members who would like to learn more about our synagogue.

Safe travel to our children going off to camp and to those on summer vacations. Time goes by so very quickly make each and every day count my friends. Wishing you the very best!
